Goodwill for Sale

August 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Well, the Olympic marketing geniuses are rolling out in full force again.

It’s always been pretty amazing to me to witness the lengths companies will go to when given a world stage to promote their product. Not that this is a bad thing. Heck, it’s the business I’m in, and I love it.

The Olympic Games really offer something special to those choosing to use it as an advertising vehicle. Using the Olympics as an advertising medium not only supports the athletes but also promotes goodwill towards each company that participates.

Ok, at the end of the day, I’m sure it mostly has to do with the bottom dollar and the exposure that companies get. I’d still like to think though, that somewhere deep down, the advertisers are consciously doing something good for the U.S. and the world. Without those sponsorship dollars, it would be pretty tough to field any kind of team, let alone the huge Olympic team we field every four years.

How are your advertising dollars being spent? Perhaps there are creative ways to spend a portion of your advertising budget that can benefit your community as well as your company. It doesn’t have to be an Olympic decision. Locally, you can sponsor a little league or soccer team. On a larger scale, there are high school and college teams that are always looking for help. Think about it, these are just a few ways that you can get some company exposure while helping out amateur athletics.David
